AIR JORDAN 11 “MOON LANDING”, THE VIRAL PRANK

Thursday 31 December 2015 11:35:27 AM Europe/Berlin

It all began with the idea to celebrate El Día de los Santos Inocentes, Spain’s equivalent to April Fool’s Day… But what started as a simple prank for our customers soon became a viral pair of new Jordans!

In early December, our creative department got down to work to create a brand new (and fake) colorway of the Jordan 11. This Jordan silhouette is one of the most wanted sneakers and they made a difference in the sneakerhead community, causing riots in the US in 2011 when they were released. Nikeholics may remember the hype caused by the Moon Landing colorway in those Air Max 90 SP… We definitely do, as their released caused sivasdescalzo a lot of technical problems.

Jordan 11 silhouette + Nike’s ‘Moon Landing’ colorway = BOOM!

Out of nowhere, a new pair of Jordan 11 came out and the most relevant international media specialized in sneakers went crazy. Sorry guys! “Is there really a new Air Jordan 11 on the way?” asked SoleCollector. Though they were suspicious of the coincidence of the release date with our traditional prank day, the Jordan 11 ‘Moon Landing’ got their attention. That was way more than we would expect!

But that’s not the end of the story. We wanted the Jordan 11 ‘Moon Landing’ to be real, and Artwar helped us to make it true. We wanted our customers to have something more than a dim memory of that day in which they almost bought a pair of mysterious sneakers. That's why we have sent cardboard Moon Landings to some of our followers who commented about our prank with the hashtag #svdfool.

The artist behind these paperborad sneakers is Eloy Guerra, a true sneakerhead whom we had the pleasure to meet at a sneakers event in Barcelona. Eloy began woodworking thanks to his passion for skateboarding, and decided to create life-size cardboard shoes: Janoski, Huarache, Air Force 1... His next challenge: all the Jordan silhouettes!

These paperboard Jordan 11 ‘Moon Landing’ materialize the memory of a prank that turned upside down the sneakerhead community, including the most influential sneaker media such as Hypebeast, SneakerNews or Highsnobiety.

Check out this short video where you can see the process of creating the Jordan XI Moon Landing!

And it seems our twitter followers who received the cardboard Moon Landing loved our gift!

Inocente!
