About the adidas Stan Smith

About the adidas Stan Smith

Made in 1964 as tennis footwear, these adidas were initially known as the Robert Haillet, like the French player. This model comes with a rubber sole and an upper where the three-striped logo switch to perforations for higher breathability. In 1971, they were renamed Stan Smith, to honor the number one tennis player of the time. The sneaker was renewed by adding a rubber reinforcement on the heel. The name and persona of that tennis player became popular in the 80s and currently the Smith are considered one of the most renowned, best-selling model of the three-striped brand.

Midsole EVA

EVA is a light, soft and flexible material placed in the midsole of retro-running and lifestyle sneakers, and is used as a cushioning system, in order to avoid harsh impacts after every step. The EVA terms stands for the material's technical name, ethylene-vinyl acetate.

A product adapted with GORE-TEX technology possesses three key benefits: waterproofing, protection against wind and breathability. This system is based on a membrane with pores, smaller than a raindrop, but bigger than a vapour molecule. It hinders the passing of snow and rain and facilitates sweat evacuation at the same time.
