Discover Y-3's fall 2018 fashion proposals

Yohji Yamamoto, the Japanese designer behind adidas' Y-3 line, presented his new collection for the Fall 2018 season. After working for 15 years with the German sports clothing brand, Y-3 put on display brand-new garments, that in majority, had the signature oversized silhouette used by the Japanese designer. From jackets with wide collars and long sleeves to scarves that stretched miles long, essentially covering models entire body from neck to ankle.

However, the innovation from this collection comes in two parts. On one hand, the use of color and patterns; on the other hand, the expert layering. Yamamoto, who normally uses black in his collections, has slightly conceded and included a dash of color for his Fall 2018 collection. He's included flourescent yellow on several accessories, plus floral patterns on his shirts, pants, and bomber jackets. As for the silhouettes, it can be seen that the Japanese designer has added garment on top of garments, in layered appearance, further simulating an oversized silhouette.

Among the items, which stand out the most from this collection, are the padded bomber jackets. Their quilted silhouette, with a diamond design, departs from that futuristic sport aesthetic we're used to from Y-3 and approaches a more preppy look, suitable for the office. An aesthetic in which, as always, the shoes take part of the spotlight. In these releases planned for autumn, you can see a Yamamoto had a taste for white and black, as well as a more booted silhouette versus a typical sneaker style.

During the press conference, the sneakers were among the pieces that saw the most questions. Yamamoto revealed how important footwear is to him, noting that creating a sneaker is a long process, and changing the slightest detail is not something that happens quickly.  He additionally stated that, "I believe that not even new models meet expectations."
