Technique and style in the new collection by Nike Gyakusou

Founder and Creative Director of Undercover, Jun Takahashi, and NikeLab started their journey together in 2012 - since then they have not stopped surprising us collection after collection. Their designs combine the most cutting-edge materials and the most innovative techniques to create some of the most impactful and futuristic designs.

The latest creation from the Japanese designer for Nike's most exclusive line is an ode to the running monks of Mount Hei, who a thousand years ago ran daily between 40 and 80km (20 and 50 miles) over 1,000 days spread over 7 years. This practice inspired Takahashi to found his own group of running monks, so based on this idea, he designed this collection whose main ingredients are practicality and elegance.

The garments exude inner peace and serenity, and their goal is, in the words of Nike, "eliminate the common distractions of runners to help them achieve zen". The streetwear and underground essences usually associated with Takahashi and Undercover remain intact and they are completed with reflective details that shine in the dark.

All outwear pieces are made with the best waterproof materials that guarantee a complete adaptability to any weather condition. One of the highlights is a jacket with removable sleeves, which can be converted into a vest, plus another piece featuring short sleeves and a hood with zipper detailing up to the chest.

Taking center stage in the collection are the garment's many pockets. Not only present in the pieces described above, but also in the collection's leggings and shorts with the aim to provide comfort and functionality. Inspired by the attire worn by the running monks on their religious quests, Takahashi did not want to hide them. On the contrary, he wanted to make them more visible than ever and in different sizes an shapes, so they would adapt to the garments in a harmonious way without sacrificing elegance.

The collection features metallic tones, such as gray, eggplant, persimmon, and blue that add a freshness to the sports looks for the coming hot months.

The Nike Gyakusou collection is now available at sivasdescalzo.
