Discover the history of the adidas Basketball shoes
Adidas has been a powerhouse in basketball for decades, leaving an undeniable mark on the sport's history. They've equipped legends and nurtured rising stars, all while pushing the boundaries of footwear innovation.
In 1965, adidas made its debut in the world of basketball with the Supergrip shoe and Pro Model boot. Thanks to feedback from the players who wore them, these models paved the way for the creation of the Superstar, one of the brand's most iconic shoes, capable of forever blurring the line between athletic footwear and fashion.
In the 80s, the Forum followed, timeless shoes that, like their predecessors, marked a before and after in the history of adidas and basketball. The Rivalry and the Conductor successfully wrapped up the decade, once again demonstrating the brand's innovative drive.
The 90s saw the rise of basketball worldwide, and with it came models like the Mutombo and the Streetball II. At the same time, the Feet You Wear technology, introduced in the mid-decade, improved stability and fit in models like the Top Ten 2000 and 2010, which were part of the new basketball branch of the Equipment line along with other iconic silhouettes like the Crazy 97.
The Crazy 1 kicked off the 2000s, followed by the sporty and versatile adidas T-Mac 1. In 2003, adidas launched an updated version of the Pro Model 2G, which became a must-have model for some of the basketball stars of the time. Two years later, adidas turned to cutting-edge technology to create one of the first smart shoes, the adidas_1, which featured a microchip that allowed the cushioning to adapt to the type of terrain.
The D Rose, D Lillard, and Dame series, designed in collaboration with American basketball players Derrick Rose and Damian Lillard respectively, laid the foundation for future innovations from 2010 onwards.
Today, adidas Basketball continues to equip athletes with high-performance designs that transcend the sport.
