SC: Hey Eduard! Nice tan. Is being tanned back?
ET: I do like it a lot! I usually like to go as dark as possible, I’m not that pale, so I tan easily and I try to keep the color until winter.
I wanted to take it to the next level for your FIVE FITS WITH because you definitely can pull it off. I love these RICK OWENS sandals, they look orthopedic, and the sunglasses—also by RICK OWENS—are giving hardcore rave. Where would you wear this?.
ET: It’s a really cool shoe. I don’t know if I’ll wear this look like this to be honest, I would exchange the shorts for a pair of baggy jeans or keep the shorts and throw on an old hoodie instead.
SC: I imagine some of your fits have a better reaction with your followers than others. Do you dress in order to get more reactions in your social media? Be honest!
ET: (Laughs) No! Not at all. I do put some thought when I know I’ll be taking pictures, but I want to keep it as natural and easy as I can. I like to look stylish, whatever “stylish” means to me. It means different things to different people.
SC: Are you familiar with WILLY CHAVARRIA? He’s really becoming a huge hit. The shoulders of this jacket and the wide pants are a killer combo. How often do you really dress up? Please don’t tell me only for weddings.
ET: I wasn't familiar with him until today, but these pants are really sick! When I go to a party or event, I do like to dress up and make an effort. I have some oversized jackets that I wear for that. No shirt underneath, just the jacket. But it has to be oversized.
Vest, Fucking Awesome. Short, sandals and sunglasses, Rick Owens.
Jacket, top and trousers, Willy Chavarria. Shoes, Martine Rose.
SC: I feel like there are young people out there who are curious and eager to learn more about fashion, especially menswear, through guys like you. You can give visibility to brands never heard of before.
ET: I try to support local artists and young creatives as much as I can. From emerging singers and new music, to small brands who can’t afford a huge media campaign yet. Right now I’m in love with the caps Tania Marcial makes, they are really cool.
SC: Would you be afraid of looking too distant from your audience if you had a super sophisticated look? Like, if you wore fancy clothes from big brands?
ET: Well, that wouldn’t feel natural, that’s not my reality at all. I do treat myself with a caprichito now and then, like with some Prada bag, but that’s not really my style.
SC: Samantha Jones from Sex and the City is dressing up her famous boyfriend for a live show on MTV, and she says, “It’s MTV. If you’re not wearing something the kids can’t afford, how will they know to look up to you?” Do you agree?
ET: (Laughs) That’s a great quote, but I do believe in democratic fashion where young people can be part of what’s going on without spending a lot if they can’t. If they can… then yes!
Shirt and trousers, Marni. Shoes, Dr. Martens.
SC: What's your take on the wide-bottoms, wide-tops vs. wide-bottoms, slim-tops thing? Here you are wearing both MARNI pieces, both oversized, and you look great. But oversized doesn’t always mean sexy. How important is it to you to look sexy?
ET: This MARNI shirt is one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever seen. I think we wear clothes cause of the way it makes us feel, so in my case I feel more comfortable wearing a wide bottom with a smaller top, plus it’s so hot right now.
Pants and bag, Kapital.
SC: These two pieces are from Saint MXXXXXX—that is “Saint Michael”—and they may look like your average graphic tee and plaid shirt, but they are the opposite. They are made in Japan through tons of different processes to make them look this way.
ET: I didn’t know! I had a skate phase and I rocked this look before. Probably I would like to show more skin in this look. And the ASICS are banging, they’re really cool sneakers. Asics Gel, right?
Shirt and T-shirt, Saint MXXXXXX. Shorts, PDF Channel. Cap, Fucking Awesome. Sneakers, Asics Gel-Quantum 360 VIII.
SC: Asics Gel-Quantum 360 VIII to be precise. It's a very popular model right now.
SC: Until not so long ago, diversifying your career meant taking the risk of not being taken seriously, but you seem to navigate very well this new approach to untraditional careers and, better yet, to have fun while doing it.
ET: Look, I’m from Súria, a small town with a population of 5,000 people. These opportunities like modeling and acting opened my eyes to so many things. Things and professions I had no idea they existed, like fashion photographers or stylists. I just feel grateful and lucky for making a living while having fun, never forgetting to enjoy life. That’s really important for me, life should be enjoyed.
SC: Last but not least, what is going on with the muscle tee out there? It’s like you see Every. Single. Guy. wearing it. What’s the deal?
ET: (Laughs) I know, I know. Well, the thing is that it’s pretty versatile. You can dress it up or dress it down as much as you want. Here it’s paired with these MARTINE ROSE pants with a great cut and I wouldn’t wear them with anything that takes away the attention from them.
SC: Noted. Do you need muscles to rock a muscle tee?
ET: Preferably.
SC: Alright. I’ll get myself to the gym then.
Trousers and shoes, Martine Rose.
