SVD Voices: Exploring the World of Laura Prim

Sensitive, playful and activist. Laura Prim; 36 years old (almost 37).

Creative & Art director and photographer let us inside her universe and emotional work.

Where were you born and where do you live now?

I was born in Barcelona and live between the Balearic Islands and my hometown.

What kind of emotions and experiences influence your work?

There is something about my work that is incredible, and that is that it connects me a lot with my most sensitive and intuitive part. I feel that in art everything is possible and that makes me fly between my emotions and thoughts.

Love, calm, sadness and empathy really inspire me. However, sadness is a driving force of change in terms of activism. I am a vegan, and to be able to express my emotions about it in an artistic way, and perhaps to be able to make people aware of it, excites me a lot.

Being and living in a place surrounded by nature always inspires me. I feel motivated, I flow, and I connect with my most creative version.

Mention some curious points of your creative process.

Whenever I can, I turn up the music volume as high as possible to quickly internalize what I want to project.

Music inspires me a lot, it allows me to connect with my emotions.

The lyrics of the songs are a source of inspiration as well.

But above all, I need to connect with nature to be able to feel freer than in the city, which makes my creative process easier.

I read a lot, from poetry to informational texts, to create my own story and connect with the context of the project. I like it to be real and at the same time a bit oneiric.

During the creative process, I usually need those moments of “outburst”, as I call it. Dancing uninhibited, singing, letting go and then… to continue with the project. They are small doses of refreshment that I do in the process.

What can you tell us about your new projects?

I am very excited about a project about respect for animals that is currently underway, for which I am creative and art director. This is all about everything to do with animal respect, and with which, in time, will create sanctuary.

On the other hand, I am creating a clothing brand together with a friend that supports the pillars of sustainability, veganism and inclusivity.

A dream you would like to fulfill.

Co-directing and leading the creative direction of a documentary about veganism.

This is something that has always motivated me a lot: to be able to tell real stories that really affect me on an emotional level. Taking it to the artistic field, this language is the tool of expression with which I am best able to express myself and with which I feel I can transmit more.

To be able to show a reality from another perspective and hopefully be able to make my contribution to a better world. I would be very happy to fulfill this dream.

How would you define your style without mentioning any of the existing ones?

Maybe oneiric.

What is the best advice you have been given?

Follow your intuition.

How have you changed since you started creating?

I have changed a lot. After all, in my opinion, I think we are all chameleon-like beings who adapt to what moves us inside, we live through different stages and, therefore, our needs change. It is true that I look back 15 years ago, and I communicated from painting, illustration, fashion… but the goal, which was focused on animals, nature and empathy, was always the same.

A personal-meaning place to get you inspired.

I have several. All places that inspire me are by the sea. Mainly in Ibiza. Since I went when I was 18 years old, every year of my life I have needed to go back.

What kind of artist do you aspire to be?

I want to be an artist who works on projects related to my values.

How would you explain to a child what you do?

I would tell them: “When you go to a theme park and you see the different rides, it can happen that one suddenly catches your attention and awakens in you a joy, a euphoria, a curiosity… It's made this way to make you curious, that the music that plays makes you smile and want to be there… This is how my work works. All that you see and feel, I have made it so that the color I have chosen awakens joy in you, so that the light attracts you…”

One thing you think you do differently than most people.

Different? I don't know… We are all different and do things our own way, and that's what makes each person unique.

But somehow, I rely on sustainability and veganism as permanent sources of inspiration.

Do you have any beliefs or superstitions?

I think it is important to project and visualize what we want.
