CdG Play: the brand with a red heart
Comme des Garçons Play is an everyday wear line created in 2002 by the influential Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. Defined by its non-seasonal approach, Play offers a wide range of clothing, footwear and accessories marked by the iconic two-eyed red heart designed by Polish artist Filip Pagowski. Behind the creation of the CdG heart logo
Filip Pagowski is the designer behind Comme des Garçons' most recognizable logo—now a symbol of contemporary fashion. Originally, his sketch of the two-eyed heart was intended for another Comme des Garçons project, but it was rejected. It was only later that Rei Kawakubo, while looking for a timeless logo for her new line Play, revisited the original design and decided to adopt it as it was—in its draft state. The unfinished lines of the heart and its casual charm have made the Play line a success and enabled a series of collaborations with Converse, perfectly expressed in what is known as “Heart Converse x Play”. The design naturally landed on garments too, and the T-shirt with the eyed-heart logo is among the most popular designs of Play.
