Sports pants, a little history

Athletic work pants were originally intended to be worn underneath another garment. With athletes in mind, they consist of a zippered jacket and loose fitting pants that are easy to slip on to maintain body heat after physical activity. Young sports brands such as adidas and Nike began producing low-cost tracksuits on a large scale using new elastic fibers. The 1980s followed with Marvin Gaye and the band Run-DMC, and then the 1990s with the worldwide rise of rap music. Deep in the heart of New York City, throughout the hip-hop culture, the tracksuit reigned as the symbol of a new aesthetic and became the centerpiece of a refreshingly non-conformist fashion. And then, of course, came 2020, Covid-19, and the lockdowns and curfews that brought jogging back into fashion.
