10 BANDS TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF WHAT PRIMAVERA SOUND 2019 HAS TO OFFER

We’re at the doors of Primavera Sound 2019, and we want to offer you a roadmap: ten artists who, after enjoying their concerts, will give you the feeling that you’ve made the most out of what the festival has to offer. And we’re doing so with adidas Originals to celebrate their 10th Anniversary as a sponsor of the festival with the presentation of their new Ozweego model, in which the past, (in a ‘90s silhouette) the present and the future meet. Retro with an urban flavour. And, as the sneaker shows, you can have everything. Because as the new slogan of this year’s Primavera Sound goes, having everything is The New Normal.

Yes, The New Normal. This is the new slogan of Primavera Sound that has decided to renovate itself inside and out to show that, in the year 2019, you can and should offer parity in the line-up by having the same amount of male and female artists. The festival’s organisation says that this year’s edition marks a turning point, and not only in the feminine and masculine balance of their programming but also when it comes to opening musical genres that will be able to be enjoyed at Parc del Fòrum from tomorrow onwards until June 1st.

There will be guitar rock played by white guys, which has been a running joke for years as the festival’s strongest point. But there will also be hip-hop, reggaeton, trap and other musical styles, especially with the cherry on top being sweet, sweet pop. Which means that, is it’s traditionally been incredibly difficult to fit every single artist that you want to watch into your schedule, this year’s going to be even harder to do so. The proposals are multiplying and you only have one body because science is depriving you of clones of yourself at affordable prices. C’est la vie. So, put on some Ozweego’s and start walking, because if you want to see everything, we’re already telling you, you’re going to be walking a ton.

BEAK> FOR EVERYTHING EXPERIMENTAL. It’s been a while since BEAK> stopped being “Portishead’s Geoff Barrow’s parallel project”. With a record label that can defend itself, BEAK> ’s live performances are pure hypnosis of experimental electronic music understood as black magic.

BOY PABLO FOR INDIE’S RENOVATION. Despite its name, Nicolas Pablo Muñoz comes from Norway. After becoming a hit on YouTube with his Everytime music video, Boy Pablo is coming to renovate the festival’s traditional indie: the boy’s 19 years old, and it shows.

CARLY RAE JEPSEN FOR POP. This year, pop is the main dish at Primavera Sound 2019: Charli XCX, Miley Cyrus, Sigrid… But, if you can only choose one show, go to Carly Rae Jepsen’s, who a very long time ago stepped away from Call Me Maybe and she’s also adored by fans and by fans of divas’ pop.

DANNY L HARLE FOR EVERYTHING MILLENNIAL. If you want to know how that millennial mind sounds on the inside, the best thing you can do is watch Danny L Harle… And discovering that it sounds of unmeasurable euphoria and hyperactivity with a (joyful) touch of an attention deficit.

FLOHIO THE NEW FEMALE-RUN HIP-HOP. A new group of women are taking the reins of hip-hop. There’s CupcakKe with the Yankee representation. But, above all, there’s Flohio who’s here to show that hip-hop’s burning with a very special UK kind of rage.

IVY QUEEN FOR REGGAETON. With big players like J Balvin or Rosa Pistola in Primavera Sound 2019’s line-up, it’s time to admit that reggaeton is here to stay. And what better way than by admitting it through one of its biggest goddesses: Ivy Queen.

JULIEN BAKER FOR FOLK. Folk is another one of the usual genres of the festival that has always been preeminently masculine. Luckily, there’s a new generation of women who are giving their feminine touch… And, between them, there’s no better example than Julien Baker.

KALI UCHIS FOR LATIN R&B. For a few seasons now we’ve been living a true renovation of R&B via digital production. But there was still one thing left: for someone to take that renovation towards everything Latin. Fortunately, Kali Uchis is doing so in the most spectacular way.

PUSHA T FOR MEN’S HIP HOP. Well, ok, we have to enjoy the new female-run hip-hop, of course. But we can’t forget the fact that Primavera Sound has been a spearhead when it comes to promoting traditional hip-hop… And this year we have one of the hottest names in the game: Pusha T.

YVES TUMOR FOR INSANITY. What Yves Tumor does is currently unclassifiable, to be honest. When we thought that he was sort of an obscurantist version of Arca, the guy started taking on more of that noisiness… And, honestly, we don’t know what we’re going to see at Primavera Sound anymore. But, it’s pretty clear that, despite everything, we still want to see him.
