Ten in the evening. Cora Novoa lowers the volume of the mixing board inside the store, that is jam-packed, everyone’s going nuts, applauding and cheering: that is how the audience usually returns the musical love that they have received from the DJ hours before. The excuse of the presentation was the second chapter of Mental Diary, Cora Novoa’s latest album that she’s publishing in fragments of three different episodes. The Art of Losing is an EP that, as the name implies, invites us to learn how to lose, how to embrace loss. And still, however, her presentation couldn’t be more of an absolute win: the idea was to link three b2b’s in which Cora Novoa would invite some of her friends to write in their own way that mental diary that we have.
THIS IS HOW CORA NOVOA’S PRESENTATION FOR THE ART OF LOSING WENT
We sensed that it was going to be very special, and it really was. Our Barcelona store was filled with people attending the presentation of the second instalment of Cora Novoa’s project, Mental Diary. The artist decided to present her new EP called The Art of Losing in very good company: three sessions and six DJs to recreate in real time her imagery of sounds. An event that, on top of that, showed that another kind of hedonism is possible and that you can finish at ten in the evening just as if it were six in the morning at the best club.
Alvva and La Diabla opened the night, going on full-throttle speed from 0 to 100 in a twerking session that heated the room whilst people were still arriving, getting their first Brutus beer and talking to their friends and acquaintances. They were followed by Ikram Bouloum and Alex Nikolov who even let out a crowd pleaser or two like Ariana Grande. Because why not? And Cora Novoa and Del Corral closed off the night with a dark electronic music session that showed that another kind of hedonism is possible: you can give everything in a session in the early evening, then leave and calmly get home.
A proposal that perfectly marries with the SVDism concept: Sivasdescalzo’s commitment towards the creative communities of the world with a group of experiences that give visibility to advanced creative visions like the one from Cora Novoa. What’s clear about this is that after the DJ lowered the volume of the mixing board, even after coming back to do an encore that made attendants dance again, in Sivasdescalzo we’re building something big that goes beyond the concept of a regular physical store: our spaces, in Madrid and in Barcelona, aren’t just a meeting point for sneakerheads and lovers of the coolest of urban fashions, but also a privileged space from which we write the history of the most restless and exciting of cultures of our time. We’ll see you again soon in Madrid; stay tuned to this blog and our social media to learn more
