Focused on functional footwear for the outdoors and the city, from the first moment Suicoke looked for the support of Vibram to create a personalised insole that has become one of Suicoke’s marks. Having existed for eight decades, Vibram has specialised itself in creating soles and midsoles for mountain products and it has changed its logo, the yellow octagon, into a global symbol. Suicoke’s first order was for a specific insole, but in the interaction process between both brands, they developed an external rubber sole that is made out of one of Vibram’s compounds, Moreflex. Its characteristics, a reduced weight to achieve better mobility, the absorption of impacts and greater durability.
SUICOKE, THE CULT BRAND THAT FAVOURS THE SUMMERTIME
There are many brands that talk about placing the product as its key element, but only a few of them do it in such an extreme way as Suicoke, a Japanese label that wants a big part of their team and even their past to remain anonymous. Suicoke likes to tell the story that in its early stages they focused on painting matrioshkas, Russian dolls, as if they wanted to keep away from the limelight that which has nothing to do with the product.
The concept of fashion sandals with advanced technology has an interesting tradition in Japan, but Suicoke’s real success story came when international markets started to adapt its shapes. The collaborations with Nepenthes, Beams, Mastermind, BAPE or CLOT were widened with global brands like Stüssy, Norse Project, John Elliot or Aimé Leon Dore, elevating the sandals to originate a new trend.
In its SS2019 collection, geometric placements, neoprene, references to Tabis, purple colours and new styles that advance Suicoke’s future.
